Personal Trainers most important tip ever

This article is inspired from my personal training client James in Epsom and Ewell. He asked me what my number one personal training tip was.

When my personal training clients ask me this I get the impression that they are wanting to hear something along the lines of ‘do 10 squats a day’ ‘eat these berries’ or ‘run 5k 3 times a week’. I feel like they are looking for a quick fix for their fitness goals. What I say to them is ‘Consistency and Progression’, let me explain these a bit more.

Consistency: Being consistent with you exercise and diet is the biggest factor that determines whether of not you reach your fitness goals. Fitness goals take a long time so you need to be consistently getting your workouts in and building on your fitness. Diet needs to be consistent to, it’s no good eating healthy Monday to Friday and having a blow out every weekend, you will get nowhere. But consistency over the long term is very powerful, You will be absolutely amazed by the progress you can make if you are consistent with your exercise and food.

Progression: I say to my personal training clients ‘If you do what you have always done you will get what you have always got’. You have to keep progressing your fitness and keep moving towards your goal. Each week making small and consistent improvements, these small improvements each week will add up to something massive over the long term.

It is that simple really, with these fitness principles as your foundation you are almost guaranteed to succeed with your fitness goals.
